#11: Welcome To Signs - Illinois & Wisconsin

Last weekend we took a little road trip to celebrate our first anniversary. We headed up to northeastern Illinois to explore two state parks, Lake La-Aqua-Na and Apple River Canyon. Our goal was to spend the weekend in the woods hiking and enjoying nature.

While out looking for a place to grab some food, Dan and I found ourselves in an extremely rural area near the Illinois - Wisconsin border. Much to our surprise there were "Welcome To..." state signs on a narrow two lane country road. Of course I needed to pull over and get the photo op! This adventure then commenced the goal to get a picture in front of all the US State, District, and Territory signs. There are 56 in together: 50 states, 1 district, and 5 territories.

How appropriate that our first sign is that of our home state: Illinois.

Right down the road was our second photo opt opportunity: Wisconsin.

Dan's selfie skills are a bit lacking, but we got the gist of the sign. 🤣

Our anniversary is the 4th of July, so we were festive all weekend with our Americana attire. I found the sunglasses at Target. The weather was great all weekend, a bit on the hot side. We definitely prefer cooler weather, but those blue skies were perfection!
